Insight 8.1 software as seem on a Fortus 400mcEvery so often a new release of Insight software comes along and helps improve your Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) parts with added functionality. Insight 8.1 has recently been released, so what's new for Fortus users?

Well, first of all the ability to process files for building polycarbonate (PC) parts with the new soluble SR-100 support material has been added. This new support material allows you to remove support structures more easily (hands free!) from PC parts, offering more flexibility in your rapid prototyping and/or rapid manufacturing. It also opens up the capability to build finer resolution parts in PC; with SR-100 supports you can build FDM parts in 0.005 inch (0.127 mm) layer resolution. In addition to SR-100, Insight 8.1 supports the use of ABSi on the Fortus 900mc.

Beyond new materials, there are some other key additions: more seam control and sparse options, better and more advanced control of custom groups, and the ability to reset the stl file path. You can now easily move all seams to the back side of a part with the click of a button, add more sparse cap layers to produce a thicker outer shell on a sparse-filled part, and use custom groups to improve your part strength, throughput, and overall part quality while maintaining the benefits of sparse fill. To learn more about these and other additions to the software, check out the release notes after you've installed the upgrade. They’ll be in the Stratasys folder under program files.
