Use Case – Complex Engineering Parts using WSS™150 water soluble support material

Challenge

Removing large amounts of support from the cavities of complex engineering parts creates a time-consuming supportremoval process. The engine provides a great example of a bulky part with a large amount of support that requires exhausting manual labor during the removal process.

Solution

Using WSS™150 water soluble support material allowed for fast, hands-free removal of the support material in a single step,without the risk of damage by placing parts in a standard dishwasher for a hands-free automated process. The parts wereplaced in the dishwasher for fast support removal with no hassle. L2S™ was also used to solidify the wastewater, in line with local regulations, for safe disposal without the need to send for onward treatment.

Impact

Easy support removal with a standard or countertop dishwasher saves valuable time with a hands-free, automated process resulting in functioning 3D printed parts with an excellent surface finish. In addition, non-hazardous, solid waste disposal, in line with local regulations, provides increased efficiency and sustainability
