Production Challenges

Most physical objects, both natural and manufactured, are composed of various materials. But producing realistic multi-material models requires a multi-step process that grows more costly as additional fabrication, assembly, and finishing steps are introduced. This makes realistic and complex prototypes difficult and expensive to produce.

What’s Possible With Stratasys 3D Printing?

Multi-color, multi-material 3D printing produces highly realistic prototypes, models and learning aids. It helps you communicate ideas more clearly and identify improvements sooner by capturing fine details in a range of colors and materials.

Because additional steps like painting, post-curing and assembly aren’t necessary, you can reduce your costs – or feasibly produce realistic models for the first time.

How does it work?

At its most basic, multi-material 3D printing lets you use two or three resins in a single print job to simulate overmolding, or produce trays of assorted parts.

Dramatically expanding the possibilities, software combines several resins in specific concentrations and microstructures to produce Digital Materials that vary in translucency, rigidity, thermal resistance and color. This lets you incorporate a full range of material properties in a single print job.
