antimicrobial coating

Additively manufactured medical parts.

Additive manufacturing can be used for an extreme variety of products, its versatility has opened up the window of opportunity for its application into so many industries. The medical industry has taken notice to the versatility additive manufacturing offers and has taken advantage of it. Most medical devices can be 3D printed without an issue, but there is a small percentage of medical devices that need to be manufactured with sterilizable materials. Certain devices come into contact with patients' body tissues or fluids, making it absolutely necessary that these devices are made with materials that can be sterilized. Stratasys evaluated the effectiveness of a water-based antimicrobial coating.

Over the next five pages, we will be discussing the background on sterilization, the sample preparations and evaluations, as well as the testing of antimicrobial efficacy and the results. This test was facilitated by the University of Texas at El Paso, as well as Stratasys. The goal was to make 3D printing safer and more efficient for medical use, download the whitepaper to find out more.
